A connoisseurs’ favorite, this sweet, aromatic, and delicately spicy pear is often considered among the finest dessert varieties. Its russeted brown skin adds to its old-world charm, and the tree shows strong resistance to fire blight. Requires about 500 chill hours and is self-fruitful in most western U.S. climates; elsewhere, it benefits from pollenizers such as Bosc or D’Anjou, but not Bartlett.
