opens in a new window opens in a new window Design school is in session! Here are four ways to Design school is in session! Here are four ways to use shrubs in your landscape:1) Seasonal color. Many shrubs go through leaf color changes through the seasons, same as trees. Spirea is one example, shown here. And don't forget shrubs that flower in spring or summer!2) Use them as a foundation planting. Compact shrubs work best so they don't block windows.3) Use masses of the same shrub, like the Blue Enchantress Hydrangeas in the second pic, for big impact.4) Build layers. Work with the different heights and forms to create a fuller look in the landscape. Low-growing junipers like Jazzy Jewel® can be used as a groundcover, with taller shrubs behind.
